Year 2

class2@st-johns-pri.notts.sch.uk

Welcome back everybody!

Thank you so much for all of your incredible support during the latest (and hopefully last) lockdown and home learning. All of the children have settled back into the classroom wonderfully, calmly and positively, including those who have been in school who are now reunited with their friends.

PE will remain on Tuesdays and Thursdays so children will need to be in their school PE kit for those days. I will be teaching the class from Monday to Thursday and our lovely new Deputy, Mrs Thrower will be teaching on Friday's. Spellings will continue to be on a Friday along with times tables tests, which we were due to start in January. I strongly encourage children to develop their times tables through the use of Times Tables Rockstars at least three times each week. Children will complete the times tables grids and move on to the next times table when all 24 questions are correctly answered within a time limit. This will begin at five minutes and then progress to three minutes once children become familiar with them. Children will be introduced to the structure this Friday and tests will begin next week.

Mrs Doel will be working with individual children and groups during lessons throughout the week which is brilliant and Miss Jackson will remain in the classroom Monday to Friday.

Children's reading will be assessed over the next few weeks and from the children that we have heard read already, I can tell that they have made great progress with their reading.

We are slowly getting closer to normality and I fully appreciate your continued help in and outside of school to help us get there. Although I am unable to discuss issues face to face, our class email is still in full use for any questions or issues you may need to contact me about.

Fingers crossed that this is the beginning of the end,

Mrs C smiley

Happy New Year Everyone!

I really hope that you all stayed well, had a rest, fresh air, family time and a great break and are ready and raring to go for an even busier term! I had a lovely time and although I missed seeing people over the holidays it was actually really nice and refreshing to have time to relax, play games, spend time with my family, watch movies, go out for walks and read. I cannot wait to hear about what you have all been doing and to be back with you.

I have put the plan of things that we will be learning about this half term in each subject. Our overall Topic is Africa. In PE we will be doing Dance and Circuits, in Science we will be looking at Materials, RE is learning about Belonging and ICT is Creating pictures. These subjects are alongside all of the other things that we learn in Phonics, Handwriting, English, Reading and Maths so as usual, we will be trying our best, smiling, having fun, being happy and learning lots. Sometimes our plans may change though and that is ok.

Like I told you before the holidays, you will have me teaching you from Monday to Thursday and Miss Thrower on a Friday. Miss Jackson will be with us all of the time and we will also have Mrs Doel for some of the week. PE will still be on Tuesday and Thursdays so please come in your PE kit on those days. Forest Schools has finished now so please come to school in your uniform on a Monday and remember to bring your water bottle with fresh water each day. It is quite cold at the moment so remember to wrap up warm and we will still have the windows open in the classroom so you may need an extra layer on under your uniform.

Miss Thrower will be doing spellings, Science, Times Tables and Art  with you and I will do everything else. Don't worry about times tables at the moment, Miss Thrower will talk to you about them on Friday. Over the next few weeks you will get used to how we will be doing Times Tables but the first times table you will be learning is the two times table. You will not be having tests yet. We will let your parents know in due course about how they work but you need to know how to do them first!

I can't wait to see you tomorrow,

Mrs Charlesworth
